Sarah Anstey (Appointed 2022)

I have extensive experience of leading teams within the Charity and Housing sectors. I began by delivering income collection services for rent arrears and service charges. I then switched to the opposite side of the same coin, giving holistic debt advice. This included all aspects of insolvency and ensuring all work was quality assured as required by the FCA.

I am an exceptionally organised person and enjoy working in a demanding environment. I excel at prioritising workloads and enjoy working with and helping others to ensure the best outcomes for customers. I have a natural ability to develop excellent working relations with a wide range of audiences, both formally and informally.

I am always willing to undertake further study and thrive on investing in my own personal development. The qualifications I have achieved demonstrate this. I enjoy attending training courses and conferences to ensure my knowledge and practice is up to date and of a high standard.

I have also supported Crawley Town football club for over thirty years despite their performance and my better judgement!

James Beckles (Appointed 2023)

An experienced professional in the public and private sector working across policy and public relations. I have been an elected councillor in the London Borough of Newham since 2014. I was cabinet member for crime and community safety and most recently I am the chair of the local development committee.

I have experience in policy, research and public affairs writing surveys and questionnaires, analysing responses, co-ordinating community engagement exercises and political engagement with members of the public and political stakeholders in local and national government.

Outside of work I am a school governor, a parent and an avid Liverpool FC fan.

I am also a sports law researcher and practitioner, with an LLM in Sports Law and Practice from De Montfort University; and am undertaking a PhD at the University of Westminster  on football club ownership regulation and how this aligns with the fan perception of what qualities a ‘good’ owner should have.

I have published articles on topics such as the Owners and Directors Tests in English football, the Hillsborough Stadium disaster, and the use of artificial intelligence in the legal industry. I volunteer as an Independent Disciplinary Panel Member at The Football Association, where I conduct hearings and decide on sanctions for breaches of FA rules.

I am passionate about the alleviation of poverty and helping others who often through no fault of their own, struggle financially and with a lack of opportunity to achieve their potential. As someone who has experienced my fair share of debt problems, I feel I can bring an empathetic perspective.
